Our Site Manager, Nick Maslin, and Creative Media and Marketing Manager Leanda Hoyland-Linch, hosted a visit from a lovely group of visitors to Ipswich Museum this morning to show progress on the site. Now all the precious artefacts and displays are dismantled and carefully wrapped, stored or cladded, the scale of some of the magnificent spaces inside the museum has been revealed.
It was fascinating to see evidence and hear stories from the visiting historians of the different uses for this beautiful building in its lifetime, from how the rooflights provided ideal conditions for growing vegetables during the second world war, to a former art student’s name etched in the window glazing and a decorative original fireplace that would have provided warmth in what was the Night Watchman’s quarters.
It is a pleasure and privilege to be part of the Museum’s sensitive transformation to become a major destination and jewel in Suffolk’s crown.
