The latest Brick Bulletin, by the Brick Development Association, has showcased our project, Amento, which we completed in 2023.
Shaun Whiting was Project Manager of the job, with Peter Flatt as Contracts Manager.
The article highlights where bold geometric design meets the enduring qualities of clay brick. This project demonstrates how careful material choice delivers architecture that is resilient, adaptable, and built to last.
Designed by James Gorst Architects, constructed in wienerberger UK PT445 Wheat clay brick and executed by Gipping, Amento combines towering masonry walls with mono-pitched living spaces, framing views, stabilising internal temperatures, and performing reliably in exposed conditions. The project highlights the role of brick in creating durable, climate resilient buildings that maintain their integrity over decades.
Key insights:
Thermal stability and resilience: How clay brick supports comfortable interiors and stands up to weather extremes
Longevity through specification: Why choosing the right brick matters for performance, adaptability, and long-term value
Amento proves that choosing the right brick isn’t just about looks, it’s about building structures that stand the test of time.
Since completion, the house has gone on to win multiple awards, including the RIBA Suffolk Craftsmanship Award in 2024, the RIBA Design Award in 2025 and was also featured on TV as a finalist in Channel Four’s Grand Designs House of the Year.
