Our site at The Dell, Aldeburgh, has undergone a rapid transformation recently.
The project, a new-build three-bedroom home, is located on the edge of the golf course.
Designed in response to the site’s topography and tree positions, the building minimises its impact on the landscape and biodiversity, resting on pretensioned stone plinths that lift it lightly above the ground, allowing the landscape to flow beneath.
Two central volumes form communal spaces with raised ceilings, connected by a deep threshold and integrated joinery. At either end of the house are the bedroom and bathroom spaces.
A material strategy centred on UK-grown and manufactured resources underpins the design: clay tiles from the West Midlands, timber flooring and cladding from Scotland.
The specification includes wood fibre insulation, an air-source heat pump, and a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery. These measures ensure the building not only limits its operational carbon but also contributes to carbon sequestration.
