It was the end of an era last Friday as we handed over the final phase of Ravenswood to Handford Homes, Ipswich Borough Council’s housebuilding company.
The development is a mix of 96 houses and flats for social and affordable rent, designed for sustainability, including solar panels, open green space, gardens, electric vehicle charging points and parking.
To celebrate the handover, here are a few fun facts about the quantities of some of the materials used in the construction:
- A staggering 903,870 bricks
- 891 internal doors
- Over 18,000 metres of distribution pipework
- Over 100,000 metres of electrical cable (equivalent to 62 miles!)
- 18,622 metres of architrave (11.5 miles)
- 18,872 metres of skirting (11.75 miles)
A lot of materials, plus thousands of man-hours and skill, have gone into the creation of a project we are very proud of, and one which delivered significant social value to the local area through the creation of jobs, supply of equipment and materials, as well as the provision of education and opportunities for local charities and voluntary organisations.
Our brilliant site team, subcontractors and suppliers all went above and beyond to deliver what is already developing into a wonderful community for local families.
Job done!
